Central Library

Introduction

Peoples University of Medical & Health Sceinces for women, Shaheed Benazirabad an exclusive medical educational institution for girls came into being in 1974.The first name was Peoples Medical College for girls, Nawabshah which became PUMHSW university Since then library has been providing its services to the undergraduate, postgraduate medical students and teaching faculty members in various medical subjects. Before the construction of present building of Central Library, there was a circular building named as "H.M. Khoja library". By the passage of time, a new two storied building was added which completed and inaugurated by Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Ahsan Ahmed (the then Minister of Health) on 12th April, 2001 during the tenure of Principal ship of Prof. Dr. Pir Noor Ahmed Qureshi.

The central library building is consisting upon couple of buildings with ground floor and first floor, distributed in following four sections.
1. General library Reference section.
2. Lending library section.
3. Library reading section along with teaching faculty staff room.
4. Computer Learning Resource Centre (LRC).

The main library is fully furnished with wall to wall carpet, beautiful wooden
book shelves and (09) Air-conditioners providing cool and congenial atmosphere for convenient study in summer season. There is a well capacious study area with seating for 120 students and 15 teaching faculty staff member.

Mr. Abdul Sattar & Mahar, Librarian a well qualified person possessing the degree of MLIS (Master in Library and Information Science) from University of Sindh. Before his posting in this college, he has served in various government and semi-government organizations and earned a lot of experience. His honest and dedicated working has made the library very impressive.

PMC, library full fills the undergraduate and Post graduate requirements in various medical subjects with latest editions which are regularly updated.
In the existing Reference & General Section on ground floor, at present there are about 14,747 reference books in various subjects and 27,629 text books with latest editions on first floor in same building at lending library section for borrowing purpose for students.
There are 4,100 well reputed international medical research journals relating to various medical subjects available in reading section and regularly subscribed thereto.
