Text Justification Cardiology Department Overview

Overview

The Cardiology department at Peoples Medical College Hospital in Nawabshah traces its origins back to 1974 when it was established as the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) Unit. Over time, it evolved into a fully-fledged cardiology department. Currently, the department boasts a total of 40 beds, encompassing a CCU, step-down unit, and general male/female wards. Its services extend across more than six districts within the Sindh province, catering to a significant patient population.
Annually, the indoor facilities attend to approximately 4000 patients, complemented by an outpatient department (OPD) that accommodates between 15000 to 18000 patients each year. The cardiology department is equipped with a state-of-the-art Echocardiography laboratory, featuring advanced capabilities such as tissue Doppler and DSE. This Echocardiography department extends its services to roughly 6000 to 8000 patients annually, catering to both adult and pediatric demographics.
The department is under the supervision of highly qualified faculty, who also provide teaching and training facilities for undergraduate MBBS students and postgraduate students pursuing Diplomas or MDs in Cardiology. Additionally, training is imparted to ECG technicians. The department boasts essential amenities such as seminar rooms, reading rooms, and an e-library.
Ongoing research projects are a significant focus, with several in progress and some already completed and published in peer-reviewed journals. Looking ahead, there are plans for further expansion and enhancement of services. The department aims to provide tertiary cardiac services, including Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), Coronary Angiography, Coronary Angioplasty, Pacemaker services, and potentially even cardiac surgery services in the near future.
