Historical Background of Peoples Medical College and Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women, Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah) Peoples Medical College:
Founded in April 1974 in Nawabshah under the visionary leadership of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Peoples Medical College stands as a premier medical institution exclusively for women. Over the years, approximately 8000 female doctors have graduated from this esteemed institution. Postgraduate training at Peoples Medical College commenced in 2004, and since then, about 2000 postgraduate trainees have received specialized training in various medical specialties.
Initially, the college operated from temporary premises, including a portion of the District Council High School. This temporary setup comprised a couple of hostels, an auditorium (Latif Hall), and the main building of the Muslim Boarding House. The college admitted its first batch, consisting of approximately [insert number] students, for clinical teaching purposes.
Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women: Established by an act of the Government of Sindh dated December 21, 2009, the Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women, Nawabshah, received the assent of the Governor of Sindh and the Chancellor on November 10, 2010. The Vice-Chancellor of Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women assumed office on January 8, 2011. On March 10, 2011, Deans were appointed for the faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Medical & Allied Sciences, Surgery & Allied Sciences, and Community Health Sciences.
The new campus, spanning approximately 200 acres of land located 3.5 kilometers from the outskirts of Nawabshah, currently houses four institutes: Doctors of Physiotherapy, Doctors of Pharmaceutical Sciences, BS Nursing (Generic), BS Nursing Post RN, and Bachelor of Science in Public Health. The campus also provides accommodation with five hostel blocks for undergraduate students and house officers. Recently, the university inaugurated a new institute, the Peoples Institute of Technologists in Health (PITH), at the main campus, offering four new technologist degree programs. These programs, open to both male and female students, include Cardiovascular Technology, Anesthesia Technology, Intensive Care Technology, and Medical Laboratory Technology.
